1st reason – Do you know your process ?
Our second post is about the manual processes that are so common in IT shops. IT specializes in analyzing and automating business processes. Every IT group knows how to automate business processes for their customers. Some groups are doing it better than others, but all IT groups are doing it.
The paradox is that none of the IT groups that I know spend time and effort to analyze and automate their own IT process. Therefore the majority of the IT processes is manual and is prone to all of the difficulties, deficiencies and complexities associated with manual processes.
If I’ll pay your IT group a visit, can you show me all of your processes? Do you have measurement points to monitor your process health? Have you used your model processes to find areas for improvement and took advantage of your IT skills to improve the process? If not, at least you know where to start.
